Tripping Cause I'm Clumsy :)

picture from: here

They say that we suddenly grow up at a point, without realizing.

We suddenly stop doing what we always have been doing and we take a break to think. And then we change the gears and let go of all the stupidity.
We may not like it in the beginning, but this break is required. We need to sort ourselves out, and I think that this is what I’ve been trying to do from the past few weeks.

I’ve heard that college changes people. Tomboyish girls start to wear make up, and the nerds start to bunk classes, while the desperate ones are all over each other. No hard feelings, but this is what happens.
I’ve been thinking about which category I lie in. And honestly, I’m clueless. While people around me are too busy attending some party or the other, or while uploading pictures on social networking sites, I’ve been so lost because none of these things seem appealing to me any longer.
I don’t find the need of going to the washroom every now and then just to make sure that my hair is proper. I don’t want to buy the latest fashion clothes or suddenly walk in heels, because I know that I am sure to trip!

While the whole world around me is too busy trying on different masks and finding their way out, I’m happy shedding all the colours that I was once covered in. I don’t want to pretend or try to be cool. I just want to be myself. Whether people like me or not, I honestly no longer care.
I’ve felt so lost. But now when I look at the people around me, I think I’ve found my way through the maze at last. I’ve found myself while people are too busy losing themselves.

Are we that ashamed of ourselves that we need to change? Or are we that weak to let others change us into something we are not?

I believe that no matter how hard we try, or how many masks we wear, in the end of the day, we come back to being ourselves. We are all Plain Janes, in some way or the other, and it is all right to be plain instead of being pretentious.

Did I grow up too fast, or are the people around me a bit too immature? Well, I don’t want an answer to that.
I’m just happy with the way things are right now. And next time I see a girl trip because of those heels, I’m just going to tell her that it’s high time she realizes that those shoes aren’t meant for her. And she should grab her pair before they wear out.

  1. The people around you are definitely immature. In my school, there isn't as much peer pressure, but there are a few people who look down upon me because I like to read and don't wear makeup or flirt with boys.

I commend you on this epiphany and the effort you are making to shed that cocoon around you :)

  2. It's a very mature post and as you said, you are finding yourself and seeking the bigger things in life and others are loosing themselves. It's not about age but about sensibilities.
The sooner we get it the better.

BTW, I love the title and its correlation to the post. Welcome back :)

  3. You're growing up, it's as simple as that. But just because you're growing up doesn't mean you can't indulge in a little immaturity. You're never too old to have some fun, and no one is truly that boring :)

  4. Just be yourself and see the world around you!Being oneself is more important than chasing a mirage:)

  5. It was such a mature post. I love how you've found yourself, coz I could relate to the feeling. When all around, people are trying to pretend, i feel I don't need to anymore..

    Loved it.. Welcome back :)

  6. Philo,

Just be your own self and follow your conscience. One should never put on false facade just for acceptance.

    Take care

  7. Aaah, introspection... Goes well with beer.. n chips... :D

love the way u think PhilO.. told this earlier but here it goes again "u're 19???!!!"

  8. A lot of people do that when they are in college, but as time goes on people mature and find the real them. I should be honest, I did few things because I wanted to gel in, but then I had lost myself somewhere, and realised I am a plain Jane and I like this plain Jane.

Lovely put, and it felt as if I was listening to you talk. You know what, you are mature. People around you would catch up as they grow older.

  9. Welcome back Phillo.. u just spoke my heart, Same feelings, same confusions, I woud say I failed miserably pretending, Afterall we are ourselves, rather than flaunting the artificial me , Being oneself helps us

  10. A post that invokes introspection and oozing mature thinking. The need to change is constant. Sometimes, it just happens like being swept away by the tides accidentally and sometimes we wait in the sand hesitant to be swept away but either ways when it happens, we all undergo a phase of feeling lost, feeling as though we are sailing meaninglessly. What we need to remember is, however we take it, we are heading towards the right direction- the direction we are meant to be !

I find myself lost too, way too many times but somehow I have always found a shore to be swept into ! :)

  11. life is like that...
as you say, you are happy right now with whats going on, i guess everything is in place...thats all what matters...

  12. Grow up but never let the child in you die..

  13. One should not change for other being changed. The need should felt within.

    100% true!

    Beautiful writing!

  16. Very nicely put. Be yourself I'd say, nobody on this face of the earth can ever replace the REAL you anyway :)

  17. Hey der! Can so much connect to it...Its a journey that i guess everyone goes through - some for long time, some for little! Everywhere you look around you find falseness...At one point of time to begin to understand it as being real...And soon enough u feel u were trapped and you let go off masks...An honest and mature post :)keep going...

  18. This is just so AWESUM!! Luvd every bit of it :)

  19. be as you are and take others in your stride :-)

  20. awesome post..
..its good that you don't try to wear the mask and pretend to be someone else..coz whatever mask we may wear..behind that lies the same flesh..its better to be yourself..n cherish yourself..and love yourself..
..wearing high heels for someone else..though you may be tripping seems an absurd thing to do..but that is the way of the world these days...its high time ppl start thinking..
..loved this post..please keep writing.. :)
